Halloween 2025 is poised to break records, with total spending projected to reach $13.1 billion, surpassing the previous high of $12.2 billion set in 2023, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF). An impressive 73% of people plan to celebrate in some way, and average spending is expected to rise to $114 per person, up from $103 in 2024.
Halloween decor continues to lead the way, with 78% of shoppers purchasing decorations, the highest share ever recorded. Total spending on decor is projected to reach $4.2 billion, an increase of $1.6 billion since 2019 and surpassing both costume and candy categories. Shoppers are also getting a head start on the season, with nearly half beginning their purchases more than a month in advance and many decorating their homes as early as September.
In terms of trends, Halloween 2025 leans into gothic romanticism, featuring dark color palettes, vintage details, ravens, and literary horror motifs. Another emerging trend is the witchcore aesthetic, with candlelight, spell books, crystals, and vintage witch imagery creating an atmosphere of mystery and magic. Balancing these moody styles, we’re also seeing a playful side emerge with quilted patchwork ghosts, neon colors, and whimsical animals.

Gothic Romanticism
Drawing inspiration from classic literature and vintage aesthetics, gothic romanticism blends drama and sophistication. Expect to see dark color palettes, candlelit accents, and intricate raven illustrations paired with literary horror quotes from authors like Edgar Allan Poe or Mary Shelley. Think ornate frames, aged book pages, and moody florals that evoke the feeling of a haunted library or a dimly lit Victorian parlor. Many makers are incorporating this theme into cards, jewelry, art prints, and other home decor.
Witchcore
Centered around candlelight and ornate candelabras, crystals, and beautifully bound spell books, witchcore brings in an element of spookiness to Halloween this year. Expect vintage witch imagery, including moons, potions, and celestial motifs. These elements will appear in everything from home decor to jewelry, creating an atmosphere that feels both magical and timeless.
Botanical Elements
The botanical and dark floral trend brings a natural edge to Halloween decor. Think black zamioculcas, curling aeschynanthus rasta, and dark blooms in both real and faux arrangements. Vintage-style botanical prints and drawings of poisonous plants add an apothecary-inspired touch, blending science and spookiness.
Patchwork & Bowtie Ghosts
A cheerful twist on classic Halloween decor, patchwork ghosts blend handmade charm with a cozy aesthetic. These ghosts appear stitched together from quilt blocks, giving a playful, patterned spin to the traditional ghost. Some makers are even creating real quilted versions, turning this design into tactile decor.
Another friendly favorite this year is adding bowties to ghosts to add personality and charm. We are seeing these details across printables, t-shirts, and home decor.
Neon Colors
Halloween 2025 is lighting up with bold, high-contrast color palettes. Deep blacks serve as the base, while neon accents in electric orange, glowing green, and vibrant purple add a modern edge. Hot pinks are also making an appearance, giving the season a fun twist. These bright tones bring a contemporary feel to this year’s celebrations.
Halloween Animals
A new cast of Halloween animals is emerging this year, with geese, raccoons, highland cows, and feral cats infusing collections with wit and personality. These creatures are showing up prominently in apparel and printables, especially greeting cards and art prints.

This Halloween, expect a mix of magic, nostalgia, and playfulness. From vintage eeriness to whimsical creatures, these trends make room to bring your own twist to the holiday.
